“Some People” is on my excellent books list for 2026.

I thoroughly loved this smart, deep, crazy good read. When Malti Patel is injured, she finds she needs help at home during her recovery. But, who to call? Her only daughter, Kavya is on an extended trip to India, but Kavya’s husband, Nathan is home and available. There’s a problem. Nathan and Kavya are divorcing. But Nathan is Malti’s only possible caregiver.

So starts “Some People.” Divided into nine days, Malti and Nathan begin an adventure of discovering what they didn’t know, understand, or think they knew about themselves, their relationship, and Kavya. The writing and insights into relationships, family, and love are astute and brilliant. The icing is the hilarious banter between Malti and Nathan that is very entertaining.

This is a book not to miss. It is unforgettable.
