Ladies’ social tennis was enjoyed by many. A big shout out to Barbara Wilson for organizing our updated sign-up system on Team Reach. Margaret Farmar also did an amazing job getting the weekly schedule organized and shared. It’s a very welcoming group with emphasis on playing for fun! Join us when your time permits
TENNIS UNDER THE STARS
The 17th Annual Tennis Ball was a magical evening under twinkling stars on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The evening featured dancing to the live music of “Network”, door prizes, and a delicious meal prepared by the chef and staff at Country Creek. The 6-ounce filet was out of this world! As always, the serving staff did an amazing job attending to all the guests.
The Tennis/Pickleball community enjoyed the social time together and cheered on the tennis teams coached by Rocky Blaschke, Joan Blaschke, Larry Brush, and Roe Brush.
The tennis community would like to thank Kathy Kettler for chairing this event for the past two years. Kathy would like to thank Phil Riskin and Ron Wicks for helping her make this event a huge success!
CAPTAINS NOTES
An Update from Captain Joan Blaschke
VCC 70’s Bonita Tennis team finished the 8-game season in fourth place out of 10 teams. The play was at a high level and very competitive. Only the top team earns a banner. We felt proud of our success.

An Update from Captain Roe Brush
The BonEro Ladies 50+ 3.0 league started the season in the fall and in December we were in first place! Tiebreakers were played 11 times and we won 9! These were very tough, competitive matches. As of late March we were sitting pretty with a healthy lead over the other 5 teams and still in 1st place! It’s nice to be soooo far ahead!
After winning all 3 courts on the same day we had a sweep party. We had 6 parties that were fun and enjoyed by all. It gave us a chance to socialize off the courts and share important information like who had the healthiest appetizer or the best dessert. Mary Ellen’s Key Lime pie won hands down.
I congratulate and thank all who joined and made our team a success. Joan Blaschke, Denise Sahly, Daphne Cole, Margaret Farmar, Barbara Wilson, Carol Wolff, Maureen Bieling, Kristen Salerno, Eva Vassallo and Mary Ellen Bragg. Great playing ladies!

An update from Captain Larry Brush
The Men’s 2.5 tennis team had an enjoyable season of tennis with good matches, visiting new places and meeting lots of fellow players. We ended the season out of the playoffs, but had a number of good wins.
We missed two key players this season. Juergen Molsen passed away last summer and Paul Neatrour has retired from the game with health issues. We added two new players in Chuck Sahly and Craig Wolfer. Their contribution is much appreciated. Rounding out the team are Rod Cameron, Florian Szmurlo, David Smith, Bill Zakarow and Harold Cullen.
The participants in Men’s social tennis appreciate the efforts of Rod Cameron in managing the schedule of play. When everything works properly, it is an easy job. However, it rarely works properly and Rod is often scrambling to hold things together. Good job and thanks.
Small court tennis is doing well on the hard court. We use the pickleball lines and portable nets with low pressure balls and 18″ racquets. We play on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings from 9 to 11, weather permitting. It is very enjoyable and more social than serious. Come by and try it out. We always have extra racquets.
2026 is an election year for the tennis committee. A nominating committee was established and they have identified five candidates for the five positions.
The tennis committee will be Rocky Blaschke, David Smith, Margaret Farmar, Betty Sayad and Larry Brush.
An Update from Rocky Blaschke
We had our playoffs and ended up taking a good 3rd place out of 27 teams. This was the 3.0 any age division. In the fall, we won the 65 and over division. Congratulations all team members.
