Hello–it’s hard to believe that another month has passed already. Soon many of our residents will be headed back north for the summer. For those traveling soon, safe travels and we look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Last month we reported that the next project on the Common Grounds schedule was the new plantings of both our Corkscrew and Three Oaks entrances. Unfortunately, with the drought and no rain, all plantings have been put on hold–including this project. But, as soon as the rainy season arrives and the water issues ease, this project will be back on the top of the list for completion. If the weather cooperates, we hope this is completed to welcome you all back this fall.
While we are awaiting the much-needed rain, we have been keeping busy with other much needed, but possibly less visible, projects throughout VCC.
• Country Barn Drive Swale/Waterway: The swale/waterway on Common Grounds running behind Country Barn Dr., stretching from the rear of the houses and the corner of the Estero Library property to Country Creek Dr., has recently been cleared and cleaned. This area had not received maintenance for several years and was overgrown with non-native plants, vines, weeds, dead vegetation, and other obstructions that needed removal to restore proper water flow to the Estero River.
We want to remind all residents to keep swales, waterways, ditches, berms, and riverbanks clear of grass clippings, debris, and any refuse. Please refrain from discarding waste in these locations.
• Clusia Hedge: The Clusia hedge along VCC property and the Village of Estero Preserve, behind the villas on Candlewood Hollow and Country Barn, has been trimmed and weeded.
What is next–while we are all doing our wishful rain dances? There are still many projects for Common Grounds to handle including the evaluation of trees for both trimming and removal of those that are either dead or diseased.
