LATEST NEWS ON THE I-75 EXPANSION IN ESTERO
On behalf of Engage Estero and the residents of Estero, especially those likely to be affected by the I-75 road widening from 6 to 10 lanes between Alico Road and Immokalee, we would like to thank the Estero Village Mayor Joanne Ribble, Council Members, and Management for their initiative in preparing Resolution No. 2026-22.
“On September 9, 2026, the Village Council of the Village of Estero adopted Resolution No. 2026-22, supporting the construction of a noise wall along I-75 within the Village of Estero.”

The Resolution formally urges the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to revise the current I-75 project design to include a continuous 22-foot noise wall along the entire east side of the project within the Village, including the Brooks community from at least mile marker 120 to mile marker 122. The Village is also requesting that the project include enhanced vegetation along this same stretch of I-75.”
The Council’s action reflects concerns regarding the anticipated increase in traffic noise associated with the I-75 widening project, as well as the removal of existing vegetative barriers and the resulting impacts to nearby residential communities.
The action of the Estero Village Council amplifies that of Len Reed, Copperleaf’s Coordinator for I-75 action; Steve Chappell, President of the Shadow Wood Community Association; and other Brooks Presidents, including Larry Conroy, I-75 Coordinator at Tidewater, as well as the advocacy stance taken by Engage Estero itself.
The key points being made by all those involved highlight
• The many questions raised by the FDOT modeling approach, which appears to conclude there would be no increase in traffic noise, that would support noise mitigation steps. At present, the model factors have not been shared publicly.
• The real-life results reported in several other similar road widening developments highlight the increased noise and the value of noise mitigation walls.
• The population along East Corkscrew is expected to double in 5-8 years, bringing increased traffic and delivery trucks to support that growth. Because truck traffic has a greater impact on traffic noise, this factor must be considered.
• Traffic noise has been shown to adversely affect health. These effects include increased cardiovascular disease, sleep disturbance, tinnitus, and annoyance. Research has indicated that for every 10-decibel increase in noise, the risk of a first heart attack rose by 12 percent.
Communications on these issues have been sent not only to senior FDOT officials but also to senior government officials.
