VCC Holiday Boutique

Every year, on the first Monday of November, the VCC Holiday Boutique kicks off the Christmas season at The Villages at Country Creek. It’s a shopping experience unto itself, and this year, as in the past, it was a huge success. Lois Christensen, chairperson of the event, gave credit to the support of the community, the skill of the crafters and the excellent teamwork of all involved.

Seventeen vendors participated in the cash only sale. They made a wide array of clever and beautiful articles from Christmas ornaments and decorations to handbags and jewelry to fun things for children. Decorations for the home as well as one-of-a-kind gift items were also in the mix. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 155 shoppers strolled around putting their favorite items in their baskets.

The Boutique is made possible by the KnitWits, a group of ladies who meet weekly to make a variety of unique items available to residents, their families and friends. During their meetings they exchange ideas and partake in friendly camaraderie.

Setup for the event takes place the Sunday before the sale. All participants bring their merchandise to the clubhouse, and it is placed “boutique style” around the main dining room and the sunroom. The committee of crafters and artists “dress up” the rooms and tables to bring in the holiday spirit for guests to enjoy. The “sales staff” wear Christmas aprons, and the restaurant adds to the event by offering all shoppers a ten percent discount on their lunch.

The Holiday Boutique has been an annual event at Country Creek since 2008 (with the exception of Covid). A small stipend is collected from those who choose to participate, and a percentage of their earnings is donated to the Country Creek Volunteers. Participation is open to anyone who resides in the community. Simply contact Lois at 239-218-6814. She will guide you through a juried process that ensures quality and eliminates duplication.
